KATHMANDU: Trade unions of Casino Nepal at Hotel Soaltee asked the hotel to pay their salaries.
Hotel is responsible to bear all liabilities since its operator Nepal Recreation Centre has failed to clear its revenue dues and pay staffers’ salary for last eight months,” trade union representative Amir Khadka said, adding that all trade unions in the casino has formed a seven-member talks team to hold discussion with the hotel management. “A total of 779 employees have been working with Casino Nepal, he informed, adding that Nepal Recreation Centre owes Rs 458.2 million in salaries to the employees.
Public Accounts Committee (PAC) under legislature parliament has also directed the government to pay employees’ salaries, he added. The government should pay employees by auctioning land of Nepal Recreation Centre Centre at Kalimati. “The ownership of Casino Tara and Casino Anna which were operated by Nepal Recreation Centre earlier has been granted new operators,” Khadka said, adding that Hotel Soaltee might also get new operators but it is delaying the process.
Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation had on June 16 decided to scrap licence of Nepal Recreation Centre, if it failed to clear its revenue dues by deadline. The ministry had also published a notice on June 19 granting seven days ultimatum to pay dues.
The ministry has asked Home Ministry and other government bodies to help implement its decision.
